Wedding: What lens should I use?
When I booked my first official PAYING wedding gig the first question I asked myself was "what lens should I be using???". This was a destination wedding in Jamaica W.I.
Luckily I good friend of mine and experienced wedding photographer (Andres Velenzuela) was able to give me guidance. I'll share his advice with you. Please note this is our opinion only, there is no right answer. At the end of the day use what suites you.
Andres advised that I bring 3 lens.
1. A wide angle for group shots
2. A high quality zoom
3. A sharp prime lens (fixed zoom)
Those 3 lens equated to ;
- 35mm f/1.8 Nikkor
- 70-200mm f/2.8 Nikkor
- 85mm f/1.4mm Nikkor
For the most part I used the 70-200mm lens. This allowed me to move around while remaining out of sight.
The 35mm 1.8 is a fast lens so this allowed me to get some great shots that night.
Over all the combination of those 3 lens provided me with all the coverage I needed for the weekend. I couldn't have been happier with my setup.
Oh! I was shooting with a Nikon D7000 with a Nikon SP800 speed flash and diffuser.
Chevk out out my portfolio to see some of the shots from this wedding. That would be the Heidi & David Rosario wedding.
